Created in the aftermath of COP 21 and the Paris agreements, the Greater Paris Metropolis has based its action and its projects on a strong and concrete commitment to an innovative, united and sustainable metropolis. Air quality is at the heart of this orientation: atmospheric pollution represents 48.000 premature deaths per year nationally, and 6.500 in the Greater Paris Metropolis.

As part of its responsibility for sustainable development and the environment, the Greater Paris Metropolis implements measures to improve air quality for the inhabitants of its 131 member municipalities.

This commitment is reflected in numerous actions undertaken since January 1, 2016: organization of the international conference Cities For Air with cities around the world, vehicle subsidies for individuals with the "Métropole Roule Propre!" scheme, membership of Airparif , application for the “Breathable cities in 5 years” call for projects and for the LIFE programme.

The objectives, orientations and all the measures for air quality will be specified in the Metropolitan Climate Air Energy Plan (PCAEM) which will be submitted to the vote of the Metropolitan Council on December 8, 2017.

In just over a year, the Métropole has already carried out concrete actions in terms of urban innovation. Starting with the call for projects "Let's invent the Metropolis of Greater Paris", the largest European call for projects in town planning, development and architecture. Of the 56 sites proposed, 164 finalists have been selected, which will generate investments estimated at 6,4 billion euros, which will make it possible to build 2,6 million m². This represents one more point for metropolitan GDP.

The 4 meet-ups organized in the spring of 2017 brought together around a hundred startups who came to enrich the projects with innovations.

On the strength of this experience, the Greater Paris Metropolis has launched its community of digital and new technology players "Grand Paris Métropole Tech", whose members will be asked to contribute to AIRLAB.

In 2018, the Métropole will develop research-action projects, which link digital technology to the areas of competence of the metropolis. On the theme of the environment, a project could focus on air quality.

The involvement of the Greater Paris Metropolis in AIRLAB will thus make it possible to accelerate innovations and partnerships in favor of improving air quality.
