TrapAparT traps make it possible to reduce the exposure of populations to harmful fine particles by equipping targeted areas, such as major urban axes and underground railway stations (metro), with pollution levels well above the thresholds recommended by the WHO in places with high human concentrations.

The core of the device is made up of an adsorbent media proprietary to TrapAparT, capable of trapping fine particles by bringing them into contact thanks to natural air flows alone (wind and turbulence generated by vehicles). The medium is regenerated by simple washing with water at a frequency of the order of one month. The washing water is recovered and the pollutants contained are eliminated. The design based on small unit modules provides great flexibility for the tailor-made sizing of equipment according to the characteristics and constraints of the area to be treated and allows the optimization of their layout. After installation, the system operates autonomously, without energy consumption, and maintenance is limited to periodic regeneration operations.

Several experiments in the real environment have been undertaken, particularly in the Boulainvilliers RER station (project supported by the Ile de France region) and outdoors near major road axes (collaboration with the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg). The results demonstrating the efficiency of particle capture, and their precise nature, from these prototypes are expected by the end of 2020.
